Sentence Structure - Main Clause and Subordinate Clause - (1)

 

Every Language is defined structurally with some Rules.  German Language is not exception to that structure.


In German Language there are lot of Rules and Exceptions to learn to get acquainted with Fluency and Command.

We will start discussing some Basic Structures to learn and Write small sentences in German Language.


This Article, will emphasis on Sentence Structures ---MAIN & SUBORDINATE CLAUSES


MAIN CLAUSES:


Main Clauses : Main Clauses are Complete , Meaningful sentences and are grammatically correct.


Structure of Main Claus


  • Conjugated Verb will be in Second Position
  • If there is a Modal Verb, then Conjugated verb goes to End of the Main Claus

Examples:-

 " Ich  wohne in Berlin"     - I live in Berlin"

" Ich lese ein Buch"    -- I read a Book

" Ich will deutsch lernen"  ( with Modal verb)    -   " I want to learn German Language"


SUBORDINATE CLAUSES:

Subordinate Clauses have no Meaning on its own.   Subordinate Clauses form a Complete Meaning only when they are associated with  MAIN clauses

  • The verb in the subordinate Clauses goes to End
  • Subordinate Clauses  has Subordinate Conjunctions 
          weil,
          dass
          ob
          wenn
  • Sometimes a Subordinate Clause has " Relative Pronoun" such as 
          der
          die
          das
          welche (r,e,s)

  • Main and Subordinate Clauses are separated with Comma ( , )

Examples:-


   Ich lerne deutsch, weil ich deutsch mag.    " I learn German, because i like it"

   Ich bin müde, weil ich  gestern nicht geschlafen habe .   " I am tired  because i didnt sleep yesterday"

In this example,  two Clauses Main and Subordinated are separated with  comma and Subordinate Clause -"weil"
